PeaceLabs Music is my micro-indie record label and publishing company.
I've released a couple of albums and received some tv/film placements for my songs through PeaceLabs. But PeaceLabs, with the tag line "Music Saves Lives," has always been about something more than my own commercial viability. I see PeaceLabs as a sort of musical "Peace Corps" -- a national (or international) service corps of artists who share their music directly with those in need. In return for a 1-2 year service commitment, "MusiCorps" members would receive a modest living stipend, health care and support for their music.
Good live music should be available not only at 21+ nightclubs, but also in foster homes, schools and nursing care facilities. It should be abundant at public parks and beaches, as well as in times of crisis. The power of a great song, performed live, can bring inspiration and education to school children, comfort and joy to people with disabilities, and peace to communities in conflict. PeaceLabs MusiCorps members would perform regularly in these "social benefit venues" as well as at nonprofit fundraisers and on "advocacy tours" to further existing efforts on behalf of a more just and sustainable world.
To help offset costs and spread the word, my friends, family and like-minded partners occasionally host private PeaceLabs concerts in their homes and/or other creative "venues." At these events, we always try to feature new artists (like Ross Holzman, Tony Deifell and Mica Lee Williams), make time for conversation and, of course, provide an intimate environment to experience quality live music. Special thanks to Sagawa/Jospin for hosting our next PeaceLabs event in Washington DC, Friday June 1st, and dharmaspace for the show in San Francisco, Saturday July 21 (now postponed).
